Finland-based forestry company Metsaliitto sourced 2.6 million cubic metres of timber for its customers and sawmills in the Baltic region last year, it has been revealed.
The figure is included in the firm's operating results for 2008 which reveal that it posted a revenue of 45 million (£40 million) excluding non-recurring items.
It also revealed that while timber sales from private sources in Baltic countries were at a low level in 2008, the trading of timber sourced from government-owned forests was about average.
The company also stated that poor weather conditions reduced harvesting volumes in the region.
Kari Jordan, president and chief executive officer of the firm, said: "We are also continuing the further development of our solid business core and selected focus areas in order to ensure sustainable operations in the long term.
Recently, the Baltic Course reported that EPL Online had revealed that the Estonian Land Board is set to sell off large areas of forestry land in the year ahead.
