Industrial output in Latvia increased by 1.4 per cent in June compared to the previous months, new figures show.

The manufacture of pulp, paper and paper products was the second strongest growth sector in this period, up by 9.8 per cent.

Only the manufacturers of machinery and equipment experienced greater month-on-month growth - showing a rise of 13.8 per cent.

However, output fell by 18.5 per cent when compared to June 2008.

Despite this, the manufacture of wood and cork products, excluding furniture, bucked the trend and posted year-on-year growth of 1.3 per cent.

Last week, Statistics Estonia revealed that the country exported 71 million kroons worth of wood and wood related products during May 2009.

However, this figure was 30 per cent down on the same period in 2008.

The value of Estonian exports across all sectors fell by 31 per cent in the 12 months to May 2009.
