Production of wood and wood related products in Estonia increased slightly in May when compared to the previous month, new figures show.
Data released by Statistics Estonia has revealed that there was a 1.3 per cent rise in the volume of such goods created over the period.
There was also a slight month-on-month increase of 1.3 per cent across all sectors.
However, the year-on-year trend was overwhelmingly negative, with overall volumes falling by 30 per cent.
In the wood and wood products sector, production showed a decline of 29.4 per cent.
The overall annual fall in production has remained at around 30 per cent since February 2009.
Recently, a report by the European Commission identified the forestry sector as being key to economic recovery in the Baltic nations.
According to the study, action must be taken to ensure that all countries in the region are able to grow in a sustainable manner.
