Estonia could be home to a new wood-based bio-fuel factory under plans outlined by the Metsaliitto Group.
The company, along with its partner Vapo, are exploring the possibility of setting up such a project in the Kunda region of Estonia, although locations in Finland and Sweden are also being looked at.
Kari Jordan, president and chief executive of the Metsaliitto group explained that the company is keen to expand its presence in the sector.
"Liquid bio-fuels are one possible line of development for new wood-based products, and we want to take a closer look at it," he said.
The project would look at the possibility of extracting energy from a range of sources, with wood-based building waste just one of the options, Mr Jordan added.
Recently, Kasimir Nenestothy, a spokesperson for the Austrian Chamber of Agriculture, told Renewable Energy World that heavily wooded countries will find themselves at the forefront of bio energy projects.
